Sharma meets with All Saints Junior School’s Eco-Club

On Friday 10 February, Sir Alok Sharma, the Member of Parliament for Reading West, visited All Saints Church of England Junior School to meet with pupils across year groups, including the school’s Eco-Club members.

With Alok’s support All Saints Junior School, was one of the first free schools to open in the country.

During his visit, Sir Alok spoke to students engaging in a Q&A session discussing the causes of climate change, its effects, how we can work towards combating climate change, as well as his time as COP26 President. As part of his visit to the school, Sir Alok was introduced to the schools Eco-Warriors and learnt about how the school teaches the importance of tackling climate change.

Sir Alok Sharma said:

“It was great to visit All Saints Junior School again to discuss the environment and climate change with the students, who were incredibly well informed and asked some very insightful questions!”

Hannah Golding, Teacher at All Saints and responsible for the Eco Club, said:

“It was an honour to welcome Sir Alok Sharma MP to All Saints Junior School on Friday 10th February. Our children were so inspired to hear about Sir Alok's experiences leading on COP26, and we felt very fortunate to have him share his wealth of knowledge about sustainability and climate change. In fact, the children were so inspired by his words and advice, that our Eco Warriors have already started to put some things into practice: 'Meatless Mondays' and a food waste bin for lunchtimes to cut down on the disastrous greenhouse gas, Methane. Thank you for visiting us, Sir Alok, and for helping us to make our school a more sustainable place.”
