Alok Sharma, the Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for Reading West welcomed the report published by the Commons public adminstration select committee criticising the Government for announcing a further delay in a decision regarding compensation for Equitable Life policy holders.

Alok said: "The Government has been dragging its feet on the issue of compensation for too long and the latest decision to delay an annoucement until January is pretty disgraceful. I have had quite a number of Reading West constituents who had policies with Equitable Life write to me about this issue. They are rightly aggrieved about the Government's lack of response to a massive problem affecting around 1.5 million people, many of them pensioners, across the country. According to the select committee report many Equitable Life policy holders have sadly died before receiving compensation which is quite disgraceful and I hope the Government will now finally make an annoucement on compensation. Our pensioners deserve better treatment than this from the Government - we need an announcement right now together with a full Government apology."
