The Large Green Business Award celebrates the most forward-thinking businesses in the UK and rewards their efforts to create a cleaner and greener future. Winners Olio use an app that repurposes food waste by allowing local communities and businesses to share resources to reduce waste. Initially focused on food waste, the company has extended to tackle all waste.

Other nominees included Wrightbus group, a leading manufacturer of electric and hydrogen powered buses and Kimberly-Clark, who are implementing a range of initiatives to reduce their carbon output.

The Green Heart Hero Awards shines a spotlight on the extraordinary actions that individuals, communities and organisations are taking to create a greener world.

Other winners included Aleesha, a young climate activist and Cool Earth’s first Mini Ambassador, Scotland’s Greenest football club Hibernian FC, and Zero Carbon Guilford, a community space set up to empower the local community to take climate action.

Sir Alok Sharma praised those awarded for their contribution to tackling the climate crisis:

“I was honoured to attend the Green Heart Hero Awards and present the Large Business Green Hero Award to Olio, who are tackling issues around food waste which represents 8-10% of global emissions. I am pleased that the app is being used by over 6 million people in 49 countries so the food can be sent to those who need it.”
