Alok Sharma MP visits Smart Works Reading’s New Centre

Smart Works Reading welcomed Reading West MP and COP26 President, the Rt Hon Alok Sharma to its new centre on Friday 26 March.

Alok is a long-time supporter of Smart Works Reading, which helps unemployed women in need secure a job. He toured the facility in London Street, Reading and met with clients, staff, volunteers and trustees. As well as seeing the job interview coaching rooms and the wardrobe and dressing area where clients are given a confidence-boosting outfit for their interview, Mr Sharma heard about the charity’s plans to double the number of women it helps over the next three years.

Given Alok’s role as the President of COP26, Smart Works Reading’s commitment to sustainable fashion was also a topic of conversation. The charity holds regular pre-loved fashion sales to raise money to help fund its service.

Commenting on the visit, Rt Hon Alok Sharma MP, said:

“It was a fabulous visit to a fabulous charity and I want to thank Smart Works Reading for showing me around their new offices. Their work in inspirational in giving women the confidence they need to secure employment and I look forward to continuing to work with them.”

Sarah Burns MBE, Chair, Smart Works Reading, said:

“It was great for Alok to see the new centre and hear how it will enable even more women to benefit from our transformational job interview coaching and dressing service. We are very grateful for Alok’s continuing support - he has always been such a cheerleader for Smart Works Reading.”
