Alok Sharma joined a fund raising walk and coffee morning in the Reading West constituency held on Saturday 27 September in support of Macmillan Cancer Support which was organised by Nicki Woodward, recent recipient of the Purley Villager of the Year Award.

Forty participants, including members of the Women’s Walking Group the Purley Pathfinders and other supporters joined the five mile walk which started at the Purley Barn and took the group through Sulham Wood with a break for coffee at Tidmarsh Village Hall. The event raised over £500 for cancer support and research.

Alok Sharma commented: "Nicki Woodward and the other organisers must be congratulated for putting together such an enjoyable event which raised over £500 for a very important cause. It was perfect walking weather and we were fortunate to spot deer and even a kingfisher during the walk through Sulham Wood and along parts of the River Pang. Everyone throughly enjoyed the event, including the excellent refreshments during the coffee break, and we all look forward to next year's Macmillan fund raising walk."
