Right now, people across the UK are making sacrifices. Staying at home to protect our NHS and save lives. It is challenging, but we need to keep going. Working together to defeat Coronavirus, the invisible enemy. And, in the long-term, one of the ways we can defeat this virus will be to find a vaccine.
I frequently receive emails and letters from constituents concerned about the impact of climate change, which is a totemic issue facing the world. When I was appointed Business Secretary four weeks ago, I was also given ministerial responsibility for organising COP26 which is the United Nations Climate Change Conference taking place in the UK in November.
The decade we have just left behind us has been incredibly eventful, not least politically. Four general elections, a national referendum on the EU and an independence referendum in Scotland. Knocking on doors in my Reading West constituency ahead of last month’s election I sensed a huge desire amongst the electoral for certainty and stability. Talking to Parliamentary colleagues this was a sentiment felt across the nation.
