Alok Sharma, Member of Parliament for Reading West, today attended a presentation for staff at Calcot Services for Children who were celebrating their recent diploma achievements.

Calcot Services for Children (CSFC) is an organisation which provides family style homes for looked after children with emotional, learning, social and behavioural difficulties who are unable to live with their family. Children placed in homes provided by CSFC are often children who have been exposed to things such as exploitation or offending behaviours and may in their past have been subjects of or witnesses to physical or emotional abuse. CSFC aims to provide a safe environment for such children.

CSFC invited Alok to meet with their staff who had recently achieved their Level 3 and Level 5 Diploma for residential childcare and leadership and management. Alok took the opportunity to speak with the staff who demonstrated the work they regularly carry out for vulnerable children in the area.

Claire Scarborough, Training Manager at CSFC, said: “We are delighted to have Alok Sharma MP attend our presentation celebrating our staff who have completed the Level 3 & 5 Diploma in Residential Childcare. The staff have worked really hard in achieving these qualifications and have demonstrated commitment and motivation in addition to carrying out their daily role and responsibilities. Today is about recognising the dedication our staff have made to CSFC.”

Claire continued: “By staff achieving these qualifications, this will maximise the children’s potential in achieving life skills and promote education and development to secure the young people’s future. CSFC provides a lot of training to staff to ensure our young people benefit from the correct support and knowledge from staff, our homes are located in Hampshire, Berkshire, and Bucks region. We have a warm, caring, family style ethos that transitions the children onto their life journey.”

Alok Sharma said: “It was good to attend a celebration presentation for staff at CSFC. They carry out important work supporting vulnerable children and I wish them the very best as they continue to help children across the region. My congratulations to all the staff on their hard-earned diplomas.”
