There were around 60 attendees at the event, with people from at least 15 nationalities, including representatives from Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Uganda, Jamaica, Barbados, Grenada, Ireland, Russia and the UK.

Alok Sharma said: “A big thank you to Tony Fernandez for organising this fantastic celebration in Parliament for the second year running. The event provided an excellent opportunity to celebrate the achievements of those from immigrant backgrounds who contribute so much to Britain and learn more about African history and culture.”

Tony Tokunbo Fernandez said: “This all started when I first met MP Alok Sharma who is not only the sponsor but is passionately involved in engaging and building a profound community spirit among various community groups in the Reading area. This is the 2nd year in a row I have organised this Black History Month celebration at the Houses of Parliament.”

Tony continued: “Organising the Black History Month at the House of Parliament is also partly a reflection of my brand, my vision and my purpose, which is to nurture ideas and initiatives among various communities in the diaspora but also to bring people from different cultural backgrounds together under one roof to celebrate their stories.”
