Theale CofE Primary School visit

Alok Sharma, the local Member of Parliament for Reading West, has visited Theale Church of England Primary School.

Alok met with Headteacher, Mrs Catherine Morley, who took him on a tour of the new school site. The local primary school officially relocated to the new building in July 2020 as they looked to expand to new safe, purpose-built facilities that would encourage personal and academic development in pupils at the school.

In the run up to the move, Alok assisted in the process by facilitating discussions between Theale Parish Council and West Berkshire Council around the issue of moving sites. Alok also promoted the idea of a Parish Poll as a democratic way of deciding the school’s future location.

Theale CE Primary School has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted and has been awarded National Teaching School status by the Government’s National College for Teaching and Leadership. The primary school provides high-quality training and development to school staff, and is part of the Berkshire Teaching Alliance which provides teacher training and development at various schools in the Berkshire area.

Alok Sharma said: “I was delighted to visit Theale CE Primary School’s new site on Englefield Road and see the fantastic facilities now on offer to pupils. It was great to see children at the school return to the classroom and I am sure that they will benefit hugely from the new space with increased capacity.”

Mrs Catherine Morley, Headteacher, "I am absolutely delighted that finally the children in Theale, both now and in the future, will have the opportunity to learn in such a wonderful new environment. I am hugely grateful to everyone who has helped to make this a reality. I can’t wait to share the facilities with our families and the community, once the pandemic makes it possible for us to invite everyone."
