Sharma joins community litter pick in Theale

Alok Sharma, the Member of Parliament for Reading West, joined a community litter pick in Theale on Sunday 1 August.

The community litter pick was organised Theale Parish Council’s Environmental Working Party. The Working Party was set up last year to help improve Theale’s natural environment and generally make the village a litter greener and more pleasant place to live.

This year, the Working Party plans to install some new hedges, trees, and bird and bat boxes around the village. They are also revising the mowing regimes to encourage wildflowers and have already identified a colony of meadow saxifrage, a species of perennial herb with conservation status marked as in decline, in Holy Trinity’s graveyard.

They are working with West Berkshire Council’s newly established Environment Delivery Team to help delivers its Environmental Strategy to create a greener and carbon neutral West Berkshire by 2030.

Alok said:

“I was delighted to join the litter pick in Theale at the weekend. A big thank you to all the local volunteers and Theale Parish Council for organising.”

Theale Parish Councillors and litter pick organisers, Zoe Fenwick and Iain Hopcroft said:

“Thank you and well done to the many volunteers who took part in the litter pick. The Environmental Working Party will be looking for willing volunteers to participate in future litter picks!”
