Alok Sharma, Member of Parliament for Reading West, on Friday 26th January joined the 12th Tilehurst Guide Unit at their weekly meeting.
Alok’s visit was organised after he received a copy of the ‘Girls Attitude Survey 2017’ compiled by Girlguiding UK. 1,900 girls aged 7 to 21 from across the UK took part in the survey. The survey revealed that 57% of girls aged 11-21 do not think that politicians understand the issues girls and young women face today.
Alok was delighted to join the unit at their weekly meeting and was welcomed by unit leaders Melanie Thomas and Sophie Theobald.
Alok spoke to the group about life in Westminster, the role of an MP and his role as Minister of State for Employment. The group had many questions for Alok about his role and Westminster. Alok invited the group to a tour of Parliament.
Alok Sharma MP said: “I was absolutely delighted to visit the 12th Tilehurst Guides. My thanks to group leaders Melanie Thomas and Sophie Theobald for hosting me and it was a pleasure to visit. The girls asked some extremely intelligent questions. I have invited the group to visit Parliament in the future and I look forward to welcoming them.”
Sophie Theobald, unit leader of the 12th Tilehurst Guides said: “The questions didn’t stop flowing between Alok and the girls. It was a great evening and the girls thoroughly enjoyed it.”
