Alok Sharma, Reading West MP, and Pamela Bale, Pangbourne District Councillor, have welcomed First Great Western’s announcement on Monday 28th November that Pangbourne railway station will benefit from an extra 35 car park spaces. The improvement will make it significantly easier to park and will cater for growing passenger demand. Alok and Pamela were approached by First Great Western to give their support to this initiative.
The extra parking spaces will be made available as a result of a cash injection of more than £180,000, after First Great Western successfully bid to secure funding from the Station Commercial Project Facility. The Station Commercial Project Facility is a £100m Department for Transport industry improvement scheme, which is administered by Network Rail and the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC).
Alok said: “This is a welcome announcement for my constituents in Pangbourne who park at the station and commute by rail and this excellent news comes only a few days after the announcement of additional Government-funded carriages which will benefit Reading’s commuters.”
Councillor Pamela Bale said: “The car park expansion will make a big difference for Pangbourne residents and businesses, and I understand that detailed planning and design work is currently being carried out before work begins on site.”
