Alok Sharma, Member of Parliament for Reading West, was invited by Scout group member Will McMahon on behalf of 95th Reading Explorer Scout Unit to speak with the Unit about politics and the role of a Member of Parliament.
Alok talked to the Scouts about politics, describing life in Westminster and his daily duties as a Member of Parliament. Alok also answered questions that the Unit had prepared for him to learn more about the world of politics.
Alok Sharma said: “I was delighted to be invited to meet with the Explorer Scouts and enjoyed the wide-ranging discussion which covered everything from university tuition fees, to immigration and the public finances. The young people I met were bright and very motivated and are clearly set to achieve great things in their future careers.”
Mr McMahon said: “We were delighted with Alok coming to our meeting last Thursday. He participated in a discussion in which we talked about a range of issues including Student Loans, Brexit and Taxes. Furthermore, he also answered a plethora of questions from our Unit members. This gave us a greater understanding of the world we are growing up in and really enabled us to learn first-hand about what goes on in Parliament. I think he has inspired a number of Explorer Scouts to take a greater interest and involvement in politics.”
