Alok Sharma, Member of Parliament for Reading West, visited Oracle UK’s HQ, located in Thames Valley Park. Alok was invited to meet Richard Petley, the new Managing Director, and university interns who have recently completed their placement year at Oracle.
Oracle is a global provider of enterprise cloud computing and the company’s cloud application suite is built to allow businesses of all sizes to connect their companywide operations anytime and anywhere from any device. Oracle also provides its services to government departments.
The Oracle interns Alok met with showed him various pieces of technology and their application using Oracle’s software and products. Alok also took the opportunity to test out Oracle’s virtual-reality headset which is aimed at enhancing customer experience.
Richard Petley said: “With so many people in the Reading area working for technology companies, it’s great to see the Minster interested in the potential and value of innovation, and how it can make lives better for all of us. Many of our Class of 2018 interns were delighted to meet Mr Sharma and see how engaged he was with their work at Oracle.”
Alok Sharma said: “I had a great visit to Oracle, learning more about their technology applications and I was very impressed with the university interns I met. Reading is an economic powerhouse in the country and it is the presence of multi-national companies like Oracle which make a real difference to our local economy and availability of high quality jobs.”
