Alok Sharma, the Member of Parliament for Reading West, last week visited Prospect School to attend the Year Seven’s Macmillan Coffee Morning. Mr Sharma was delighted to meet with the pupils and sample the delicious cakes they had baked for this worthy cause.
Mr Sharma was treated to tea, cakes and musical performances by Prospect’s talented pupils. Mr Sharma also met with the Head Girl and other sixth form pupils for an informal discussion. He thoroughly enjoyed his visit and found the pupils to be articulate and engaging.
Alok Sharma said: “I would like to thank Prospect School for their kind invitation to their MacMillan Coffee Morning. It is wonderful to see the pupils so passionate about raising money for this worthy cause.”
Ms B Ralston, Head of Year7 at Prospect School said: “I am very proud of all the students who took part in the coffee morning, especially the year sevens who have only been at the school three weeks. All the students worked really hard, giving up their time after school to bake cakes and deliver invitations to the local community. The students have raised over £250 for MacMillan! We would like to thank everyone who attended and gave up their time, especially Alok, the students were very excited to meet him! The event was an excellent opportunity for the students to demonstrate their musical and baking skills, we are so proud of them all.”
Mr P Davies, Head Teacher of Prospect School: “It was a great to have Mr Sharma visit for such an important event and support a fantastic charity. Alok helped us raise £250 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Our students got to speak to the man representing them in Parliament and the 6th Form students enjoyed quizzing him on issues affecting them over a coffee and a cake.”
