Alok Sharma, the Member of Parliament for Reading West, last week attended the Diwali Festival 2017 at Rivermead Leisure complex.
Over 1000 people attended the event which featured group dances, talent shows, fancy dress, a live DJ, cultural performances from an array of artists, over 50 food and shopping stalls, games, henna and even a selfie-booth! More than 100 children participated in different activities and performances on stage.
The Diwali Festival was a truly multicultural event with people from a variety of religious backgrounds attending and enjoying the fun. Mr Sharma was delighted to attend the festival and meet with event organisers Monika Mittal and Mohima Bose.
Alok Sharma said: “I would like to congratulate the organisers Monika Mittal and Mohima Bose for organising this truly wonderful community event. I have attended a number of their Diwali Festival Celebrations and every year they get better and better. I am already looking forward to next year’s Holi celebrations.”
Mohima Bose, co-organiser of the festival said: “This is a truly multi- cultural event where people from different backgrounds come together to celebrate and show unity in diversity!”
Monika Mittal, co-organiser of the festival said: “We celebrate and embrace each other's cultural strengths and this can be seen by the love and affection showered on us by everybody.”
