No to Pincents Hill Development

Together with local residents and the Save Calcot Action Group (www.savepincentshill.co.uk & www.savecalcot.co.uk), local councillors and Alok Sharma have been campaigning since September 2008 to stop developer Blue Living’s plans to build on Pincents Hill

The vast majority of local residents do not want any development on this site. 750 extra homes and significant commercial space will mean an extra 1,000 -1,500 cars, leading to untold misery on already congested roads, huge pressure on already squeezed local services and the loss of a valuable green space.

Local councillors and I have taken part in various public meetings on this subject, carried out a survey of local opinion and continue to work with the Save Calcot Action Group to oppose development on this site.

896 local residents returned the survey with many residents also submitting detailed comments on the proposed development including the likely impact on traffic flows, the impact on local public services such as schools and doctors’ surgeries, the impact on the environment and wildlife and the potential loss of a valuable green space.

Having listened to local public opinion West Berkshire Council excluded Pincents Hill as a "strategic site" from its local development plan (LDF)at a meeting held in January 2010. This is excellent news!

However during 2009 developer Blue Living submitted a formal planning application to build 750 homes and commercial space on Pincents Hill and this application will be heard by West Berkshire Council's Eastern Area Planning comittee on Wednesday 24 February at 6.30 p.m at Little Heath School. We would urge as many members of the public to attend as possible to demonstrate opposition to Blue Living's plans.
