Sharma presents trophies at Duchess of Kent House Charity 5-a-Side Football Tournament
12th July 2012
Following the success of the tournament last year, Alok Sharma, the Member of Parliament for Reading West, was invited again to present trophies to the winning teams at the annual 5-a-side football tournament held to raise money for the Duchess of Kent House Charity. The event was successful in raising £1,200 profit for the charity.
The tournament was held at Prospect Park on Saturday 23rd June and featured 24 teams, each made up of 8 players aged 18 and older (including 3 substitutes). Participating teams were all presented with medals, with a returnable shield for the winning team and a trophy for the winning and runner-up teams.
The Duchess of Kent House has a 15-bed in-patient unit, day therapy centre and out-patient clinic, and provides a wide range of specialist palliative care services to support people and their families living with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer and multiple sclerosis.
Alok Sharma said: "I was delighted to have been invited to return to present the prizes for this tournament. Congratulations are due to all that were involved, raising money for this valuable local cause. I am a great admirer of all of the work Duchess of Kent House Charity does, which is often undertaken in very challenging circumstances and I am always happy to help out in any way I can."
George Solly, Director of Fundraising at Duchess of Kent House Charity, said: "Alok Sharma is very supportive of Duchess of Kent House Charity in many ways and we are very thankful for his involvement."
George continued: "Alok, like the Duchess of Kent House Charity, is embedded in our local community and the charity exists to help local patients and their families."
