Sharma joins Purley Infant School students for Friday afternoon Creative Challenges
23rd January 2012
On Friday 20th January, MP for Reading West Alok Sharma joined students at Purley Infant School for their Friday afternoon Creative Challenges activities session.
The Creative Challenges sessions included activities such as pottery, painting, board games, and music, and Alok spoke with the pupils during the session and joined in with some of their activities. Past sessions have also covered languages, and summer sessions offer the students the opportunity to visit an allotment. The challenge groups have a mix of children of different ages, which allows the older more experienced members of the group to help and guide their younger colleagues.
Alok said: “I was very pleased to join the Purley students during their Creative Challenges afternoon. I was impressed by the range of activities offered and the pupils’ enthusiasm in doing them, and I particularly liked the fact that the groups were of mixed ages, which gives the pupils the opportunity to learn from one another.”
Catherine Nisbet, Headteacher of Purley Infant School, said: “This was a wonderful opportunity for the pupils to share the exciting opportunities they are offered as part of our creative and challenging curriculum. The Challenges allow the children to put into practice skills they have learnt in an enthusiastic and imaginative way. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed Mr Sharma’s visit.”
