Sharma joins in celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee
6th June 2012
Alok Sharma, the Member of Parliament for Reading West attended several celebratory events across Reading to mark the Queens’s Diamond Jubilee. Alok joined parishioners at Holy Trinity Church in Theale for a special commemorative church service, attended the street party in Whitley organised by churches in Reading and joined in the Big Lunch and Jubilee Garden Party in Theale.
Together with Lady Elizabeth Benyon, Alok helped to judge the fancy dress competition as well as the jubilee flag design competition. As well as taking part in the highly competitive welly wanging competition, Alok adjudicated the hotly contested tug-of-war.
Speaking at the end of a busy weekend, Alok said: “Congratulations are due of course to the Queen for reaching this terrific milestone and I pay tribute to her lifetime of work and dedication to the country. It was wonderful to see communities coming together, united in celebration. Our spirits were not at all dampened by the wet weather.”
