Helping local Gurkhas to victory

Alok Sharma and local Conservatives organised and delivered to 10 Downing Street a petition in support of the Gurkha veterans signed by over 2,500 local people from Reading and West Berkshire.

Alok welcomed the subsequent ruling in the Royal Courts of Justice which concluded that Gurkha veterans who were refused the right to settle in the UK because they retired before 1997 were treated unlawfully.

Alok commented: "This is a historic victory for the brave Gurkha veterans who have served British interests so loyally over many generations and also a victory for all the local people who signed our petition. I just hope the Government will now respect this court ruling."
