Conservatives pledge to carry out a full survey of local public opinion regarding the proposed Pincents Hill Development

9th September 2008

Alok Sharma, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Reading West constituency, and local Conservative councillors have pledged to carry out a full survey of all households likely to be affected by any proposed development at Pincents Hill.

Alok Sharma said: "The views of local residents need to be taken very seriously into consideration and once the full details of Blue Living's proposals are available I can promise local residents that we will carry out a full survey to find out the views of all households likely to be affected by this development and then make sure that these views are fully represented. Unfortunately the pressure to build thousands of new houses across West Berkshire is coming directly from the Labour Government and they just do not seem to understand that there has to be a balance and it cannot be a case of development at any cost."

Alok continued: "Sadly listening to public opinion on planning matters is something Labour regards as an inconvenience and wants to do away with. For example the Government's latest Planning Bill, supported by the current MP for Reading West, aims to create a new unelected quango called the Infrastructure Planning Commission which will have powers to build over green belt and ignore local planning rules and guidance. It is simply no good Labour MPs jumping up and down protesting in their own constituencies about over-development if they fail to oppose their Government's policies in Parliament when it really matters."
